About Me

me, my cousin Jenn, her babies (my god kids!) Barrett and Lila and a sizable tart.

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by Ruthie’s Runs and Recipes.  My name is Ruthie and I am a 20-something born and raised in New York City.  I even attended university in NYC except for Freshman year which was spent in Montreal, Canada and a summer semester spent in Berkeley, California.  Right now, I am living (but not completely settled) in San Francisco.  I’m not quite sure where life will take me next!  I started this blog because Food and Fitness have always been two of my passions.

My dad is in the food distribution industry (if you live in downtown Manhattan, you’ve probably eaten his produce at a restaurant or two!) and my mom is an amazing cook and former gourmet food shop owner.  She’s modest but she had quite the celebrity clientele at her chic Tribeca shop where she sold $7 slices of  mille feuille cake.  In the 80’s, $7 for a slice of cake was absurd even for NYC…it better have been the crème de la crème mom!

Growing up in New York, “What’s for dinner?” meant “Where are we ordering take out from?” or “Where are we going out to eat?”.  In fact, my mom said that when my brother and I were toddlers we would wait by the front door when we were hungry.  Apparently we thought that it was a magical portal through which strangers would bring delicious food such as samosas, chutney, asian noodle dishes…you name it.  These days, I am a vegetarian (actually a Pescetarian, meaning I eat seafood) and I have unfortunately developed a gluten sensitivity.  I eat mostly gluten-free and try to eat a balanced diet with lots of fruit, veggies, whole grains, nuts and good fats and proteins.

And as much as I love to eat, I love to stay active.  I started playing tennis a few days after I was potty trained.  Seriously.  My entire extended family plays thanks to my dad, who used to be on the Pro circuit in his twenties.  I was the Captain of my tennis team and played competitively up until College.  Then I got lazy and cold in Canada.  I was too concerned with indie rock concerts and eating blocks of triple crème fromage avec baguette to exercise.  Mid-way through college I picked up running and have been in love ever since!  I also enjoy yoga and trying new group fitness classes.

When i’m not eating and running, I love to DJ, travel, attend concerts and of course spend time with my amazing friends and family.  I hope you enjoy Runs and Recipes and come back soon!
